Forgiveness.

Today’s post poses the question: do you truly seek forgiveness?

We all fall short in certain areas in our life and asking someone of forgiveness is inevitable as humans. No one is perfect, that’s for sure. What is forgiveness? When you ask someone to forgive you what are you really expecting them to do? What happens when they forgive but you continue to do the same thing? To forgive is also linked to change. Changing the mannerisms that brought the need for forgiveness. I heard a sermon a couple weekends ago that really got me out of the mental state I was in: depressive. I felt like everything around me was crumbling. My health, my mind, my job, my friends, my family, my attempts at love; pretty much everything. With my birthday just a few weeks away, I was overwhelmed at the time. I didn’t want to do anything. Just disappear.

One Saturday afternoon as I did my hair, I had finished watching a biblical movie on YouTube when the suggestion box pops up recommending something else to watch. The title grabbed my attention: “Could you take the mark of the beast and not know?” Centered around fears that the covid vaccine might be the mark of the beast, a pastor wanted to touch on that idea. What I thought was going to be simply something about the vaccine or other possible ways to mistakenly get the mark of the beast, turned into a life altering lesson. The whole video was an eye-opener but when he spoke on forgiveness it really hit home for me. I had tears in my eyes for the last 25mins of the video. Pure chance I stumbled upon this video, or was it? The way my mental health was declining, was this what I need to see? I truly think so. I pose a question to all my followers and anyone who reads this: Have you ever forgiven yourself?

Forgiven yourself for being blinded, for being envious or jealous, for stealing or lying, for the abuse, for the pain? Have you ever forgiven yourself for being too trusting? Have you forgiven yourself for the things no one but you knows about? How about the things you’ve done in your past that you would never do now? Have you forgiven yourself for allowing someone else to hurt you? Often times we tend to blame ourselves for allowing someone to do the things we let them do. Have you? Have you forgiven? How about the fact that you’ve left the church? The harsh words you said to a loved one? How about forgiving yourself for hurting someone? There is sooo much more to forgiveness than just simply forgive someone else. Forgive YOU too. Forgive yourself for not knowing better at the time or not doing better at the time. Forgive yourself for your shortcomings. Forgive one another but also yourself. True healing requires that. You sit around asking yourself how could you have been so stupid or hate yourself for the decisions you’ve made in life. We are all human, we make mistakes; so who says we cannot also be forgiven? I serve a just and forgiven God that hears the true hearts of all man. Have you ever said your shortcomings out loud? After the video on YouTube, I sat there with tears in my eyes and said a prayer. This prayer lasted a long time because I said out loud every wrong thing I could remember and asked for forgiveness. Things I said I would take to the grave that has happened to me or I’ve done. I asked for the father to truly forgive me for my narrow mind. I task you all to do the same. Feel the weight lift off your shoulders as you OWN your essence. Even if you do not believe in God, I ask that you sit in a room by yourself and say aloud all the things you’d ask forgiveness for. These are things that you’ve done and that have been done to you. Own the life you have lived whether good or bad and make a brand new start today. Don’t wait. Forgiveness is in the books for ANYONE.

If you have the time, below is the video I watched. Leave a comment below if you got a similar experience. You can either watch the whole thing or skip to the last 25mins.

As the sun goes down, Happy Sabbath to all my fellow SDAs!
